Farihah Choudhury - Easy Peasy Sustainability

A recent first experience at the dry cleaners brought back fond memories of a special denim jacket. I think everyone in their 20s relates to the moment where indie music was in its heyday, and everyone coveted after those oversized Wrangler / Levi's denim jackets we saw on cool Tumblr girls. The denim jacket is a staple in everyone's wardrobe and is so beautifully uncontroversial, and perpetually stylish, that it has never fallen out of my favour.

I splashed the £40 or so from my first job at the age of 16 on a classic blue denim jacket, from what was at the time, the trendiest vintage shop in town. Nobody really knew about sustainable fashion then (or me and my friends certainly didn't) but we knew we wanted to (attempt to) look like the edgiest people in sixth form, by force. So on went the denim jacket.

Fast forward it has accompanied me through many a concert, holiday, and spells of British weather that couldn't makes its mind up. Nothing feels as effortlessly chic as chucking on the denim jacket... it pulls together everything so smartly, and is a progressive yet nostalgic, genderless and amply pocketed, staple.

Seven years later, I have noticed its first sign of wear - the stitching in one arm is coming undone slightly - but nothing a bit of care and repair can't solve. Long live vintage denim!
