The ad that makes me feel 😐
Honestly, this Hyundai advert really does nothing for me. It shows an unmuddied car driving through incredible landscapes with a perfect looking family; it’s just not realistic, and thus not relatable. We want to see our own stories reflected in media we consume, however these adverts only serve to create a sense of aspiration for a false reality. Why don’t more car companies draw upon the muddy, imperfect nature of life?
The ad that makes me feel 🥰
The ad campaign that has resonated most with me - I think, ever - has to be the most recent Get Britain Talking ad from ITV.
It follows a post-school conversation between a father and daughter and explores the chasm between what we say and what we really feel. To do so, it uses subtitles to highlight what they actually mean and feel, as opposed to what we hear them saying on screen. This took me aback at first - I thought the subtitles were unintentionally on screen and that they were utterly wrong as what they said didn’t match the audio dialogue - but is my favourite part of the whole thing. I found myself really entertained and, most importantly, I saw myself in the film: I’ve experienced this exact interaction with my own father.
Ultimately, I fell in love with this campaign because it was a really clever advert that innovatively subverted the traditional use of subtitles to open up a larger conversation in a really simple way.
The top three skills that I would bring and develop at M&C Saatchi:

I have extensive experience creating engaging social media and email marketing campaigns for both personal projects, freelance work, and internships. Doing so has taught me how to cater to a specific audience, more specifically how to engage humans in a meaningful way. Time and time again, storytelling has proven the most effective and powerful way of doing so, ultimately evoking maximum emotion and engagement with campaign materials. M&C Saatchi’s whole purpose is to engage people meaningfully in this way, so I cannot think of a better place to further develop my understanding of what makes a good story/campaing.

Perhaps to the frustration of those around me, I am always concocting a new plan that seeks to challenge the status quo - be that through creating a digital platform discussing all things sustainable fashion to challenge fast fashion habits in Gen Z, or leading the re-design of the employee operating system at HURR to maximise efficiency and effectiveness. Whilst none of these are explicitly relevant to M&C Saatchi’s work, they certainly prove an inherent desire to seek out new and exciting ways of dong things.

I have been lucky enough to study Arabic and Spanish cultures at various points over the last 14 years. This has allowed me to live abroad for extended periods of time and, inevitably, my linguistic skills have facilitated many an interaction with diverse perspectives and methodologies. Combined with my creative, tactile side (I make a lot of art in my spare time - mainly collage and sculpture) this means I am almost constantly exploring identity, culture, and human behaviour through creative mediums (such as Quipus, an indigenous Andean mode of writing where one ties textiles into knots). My communicational skills thus allow me to express and explore creative concepts successfully, and I’d love to expand upon this at M&C Saatchi (especially in terms of brevity!)

What am I passionate about? That’s easy.
The short story: the intersection between sustainability and creativity.
The long story: at night my mind quite literally fizzes thinking about sustainable fashion and art - so much so that I decided to make somewhere to store all of them. I set up my Instagram page ‘Refashion the Future’ and it’s corresponding website as an online scrapbook of sorts and somewhere to pour all of this passion. Since then, I have appeared as a panelist for sustainable fashion discussions and have written extensively about the topic.
