Marketing Ideas

DUCFS Day in the Life

Each fortnight, an individual from each sub-team films a day in their life, detailing the ins and outs of their role and what life looks like whilst balancing uni work + DUCFS.

Consumers react best when emotionally engaged - making our marketing as personal as possible is as good a way to ensure optimum engagement. On top of this, it would be wise to incorporate a strong Reels + TikTok strategy into the marketing plan, as they are consistently the best route for meeting and engaging with as many people online as possible.

Palatinate Column

Similar to the DUCFS Day in the Life, the Palatinate Column would aim to shed light on the overarching stages of the production of the show and its surrounding events - but without

Ask DUCFS

A fortnightly Ask Us Anything session on Instagram stories where we give our tips on anything from how to stay creative whilst at university and where to look for creative internships to the best brand for sustainable jeans.

This encourages genuine interaction with the wider Durham community and would foster a real sense of consistency online (the algorithm will love us for it).

Events Ideas

DUCFS Dinner Club

A series of dinners at a local restaurant - perhaps Whitechurch - who provide a locally sourced meal for all attendees which is served after a talk or documentary screening. The dress code varies for each dinner in line with the theme, but consistently stresses a “nothing-new” basis.

DUCFS Fashion for Good Festival

Taking place in and around Durham over a weekend, but with the DU Fonteyn Ballroom as the HQ of sorts, the festival would offer a small market featuring local and student businesses, talks from experts, workshops, and a special edition of the DUCFS Dinner Club. Highlights would feature:

  • A Mending Lab for students where they can fix their clothing.

  • A special area dedicated to the Newcastle-based rental platform Hirestreet with rails of clothes available to rent for the show. If students book in their requested outfit in person, they will get 15% off the price.

  • A talk by Emma Askew, founder of EarthMinutes and former Durham student, on the interaction between fashion and the environment, specifically in relation to the world of water.
