Brand Profile: AYM Studio

We haven’t done a Spotlight Sunday feature for a while, so we thought it was only right to introduce you to AYM Studio. AYM is a slow-fashion brand based in Sussex, England. They make high-quality garments that are made to last and transcend trends. As a brand tried-and-tested by yours truly, you can rest assured that they really do live up to the hype.

Ethics

Perhaps unsurprisingly to those who know the brand, ethics are AYM's top priority. They make considered choices with regards to both people and the planet: they pay their team members a living wage - AYM is, after all, a member of Brighton’s Living Wage campaign - and they ensure safe working conditions.

All of their products are made in England by their small, all-female team of machinists. When and where possible, they also choose to work with UK-based suppliers. All of these elements ensure that they are positively contributing to the local economy, whilst also minimising their carbon footprint. Their anti-overproduction approach also feeds into this, meaning that they limit excess product and consequent waste.

Likewise, they champion transparent processes, considering everything from the materials they use and lead times, to where and how products are made. They’re all about educating their customers about not only this but also wider sustainability topics and the Black Lives Matter movement through their online presence.

Style

Something which sets AYM apart from other fashion brands is their passion for creating clothing that will never go out of style, in the hope that their customers will continue to wear the garments in years to come. This is really useful if, like me, you are trying to streamline your wardrobe. I only buy basic, staple pieces that I will get a lot of wear out of and I find AYM to be the best brand out there for these essentials.

Materials

AYM’s “classic” garments are made using their signature double layered fabric - a material like no other! It is comfortable and extremely flattering – I own the Bourne t-shirt in almost all of the colours because I can’t find another t-shirt that lives up to it!

Another fabric that they have started to use is bamboo, whose durability, softness and lightweight in conjunction with its environmental credentials is a winner.

Some classic AYM staple pieces are the Bourne t-shirt, the Bond mini dress, and the Chalk joggers. Some exciting new additions that I am eager to buy are the Bamboo trousers, Tennis skirt, and Seymour crop top.
